My Work

My work is underpinned by the values set out by Carl Rogers in his Theory of Person-Centred Therapy; Rogers was the first to articulate the idea that a therapist’s only job is to understand as accurately as possible what it is like to walk in the client’s footsteps, however frightening or wearying that path may be. Only when a client can feel and experience that total understanding from a therapist and feel completely safe can they allow themselves the freedom to think or say what might have been unthinkable or unsayable and, in that loosening, a new way forward can be found.

I therefore commit to offering you the understanding Rogers described to the best of my ability. This means I will not ‘diagnose’ what is ‘wrong’ with you or use ‘techniques’ on you; instead we will explore together, as equals, what you might be facing and work towards finding a way forward that feels comfortable for you.
